Jamaica-1,600 murders a year-200 gangs in activity-the third most dangerous country in the world in 2012! Crime down there is closely linked to political corruption, that's why it is so hard to fight it. The author was granted the rare authorization to follow some police patrols in the most volatile areas; he also met several gang leaders (Dons), including one who was murdered a few weeks later, and he gives a dreadful insight into the Jamaican society at large. Thibault Ehrengardt is the former chief editor of Natty Dread Magazine, and the current head of Dread Editions; he's written several books about Jamaica. www.jamaica-insula.com

Coming from a Jamaica as a baby, I didn't kno so much terror surrounded me. I can remember days when I'd ask my family about going back to visit, maybe even live on the island again, and they would stare at me with a dazed look, as to say "Do know what what we went through to get out of the melting pot?"Now that I've gotten that out, here's my review. This book is well written. Tons of historical dates in Jamaican history. I loved the interviews the author had with gangsters from different communities. More than anything, it was a platform for the sufferers to speak up what going on in JA, even tho I suspect some to be accused as "informers". The police also had there say in the book, which allows the reader to see both sides of the ongoing nuisances. I also liked the patois (and it's translation). That really gave the book an authentic feel.
Bloodshed, bloodshed, bloodshed. This is definitely not for the squirmish, however, I recommend all people of Jamaican decent to read this book. It will open ur eyes as to what drove our families away from such a beautiful place.

Gangs of Jamaica The Babylonian Wars Thibault Ehrengardt 9782953398281 Books Reviews
I am glad to know the inside of Jamaican gangs. I always wanted to know the underground world and how they operate there
A real close look at gang and gun culture in Jamaica. It gives you not only a historical lesson but a modern day outlook.
Well documented and the writer related the information in a very personal style. Having been a tourist to Jamaica several times, I found the book fascinating.
A real insight into present day rude boys in jamaica. It's blunt, raw and exposes the brutality of the Kingston streets and the gangs who inhabit them.
An objective well written analysis of the terminal violence which plagues Jamaica.
